Here’s a quick overview of the various elements:
The core content of the CD-ROM is 31 transition topics. These are found
in two locations on the CD:
- The “Arrivals” screen provides a simulated monthly
calendar, designed for the 31 days of most months. For any single
day of the month (e.g., the 15th), click on that date and you’ll
find a topic for that date. You’ll find the same topic each
month linked to that date; this suggests that, for each of us, our
work with
developing knowledge, attitudes, and skills for the topic can continue.
- The “Departures” screen offers each of the 31 topics in
alphabetical format, so you can go directly to that topic if you’re
interested in learning more about it.
Linked to each topic are two worksheets. The “Looking Back” worksheet
helps you reflect on yourself with that topic, and assesses your prior
experience with and understanding of that area. The “Moving Ahead” worksheet
helps you make plans about what you might want to address, think about,
or improve upon. Each of these worksheets can be printed out, and you
can save them to a computer. Either way, you can record your responses
to these and review them over time. It would be interesting to review
a topic’s “Moving Ahead” worksheet several months
later, to see what has been accomplished.
Also linked to each topic are resources where you can seek additional information. Two types of resources are highlighted: campus-resources and national resources. One of the main links from the opening screen is named “Campus Resources” this provides resources and additional information relevant to the campus. National resources are found for the topics; each of the 31 topics has a link to resources; these national resources incorporate a brief description and a link to the relevant web site.
To further encourage and inspire you to maximize your own future are 360 quotes
(representing a compass’ 360 degree points). These quotes can be useful
in providing you with a broader perspective of what is truly important to you.
The screensaver is downloadable; it contains numerous quotes and scenes designed
to inspire, motivate, and encourage you to take full advantage of all the college
experience has to offer you.
