Mason Resources

The Counseling Center provides individual and group counseling by professional counselors and clinical psychologist. In addition, workshops and outreach programs are also offered to enhance a students’ well being and academic performance. Health Education Service is a University Life department that creatively delivers health-related information to the George Mason University community through awareness education and skill building activities. Health Education Services encourages people to maintain healthy behavior and/or to modify current unhealthy behavior. It also strives to prepare participants to serve as public health messengers. The Self-Help Resource Library - provides a collection of audio tapes, video tapes, CD-ROMs, books, and handouts on growth and academic skills topics available to students, faculty, and staff at George Mason University. Materials may be used in the Resource Library during the hours the Library is open. Faculty and staff may check out programs overnight or over a weekend. Students may check out programs to use for classroom or group presentations. The Northern Virginia Sleep Diagnostic Center is a state-of-the-art facility; staffed by board certified physicians and other medical professionals who specialize in helping people with persistent sleep problems. National Resources

American Academy of Sleep Medicine is a professional membership organization dedicated to the advancement of sleep medicine and related research. The web site allows users to for membership, search available courses, link to http://www.SleepEducation.com to read about the latest news, review case studies, and take a sleep quiz. The link also has information on various sleep disorders and treatments.

American Board of Sleep Medicine is an independent organization developed for the purpose of establishing and maintaining standards of individual proficiency in clinical polysomnography. http://www.absm.org

American Insomnia Association is a patient-based organization that is dedicated to assisting and providing resources to individuals who suffer from insomnia. It advocates and promotes awareness, education, and research of insomnia disorders and encourages the formation of local support groups. http://www.americaninsomniaassociation.org/

The National Center on Sleep Disorders Research (NCSDR) of the National Institutes of Health (NIH) was established to combat a serious public health concern that adds $15.9 billion to the national health care bill and affects related health problems, lost worker productivity, and accidents.
